That's what qe thought about email, too. Then Googleand MS started offering free email with added other freebies and now 80% of email goes through their servers. Running your own is a very difficult task these days as most peopletou want to mail to are on one ofthose services and they jave lots of additional hoops to jump through before they deign to accept

It works for me and I am behind a strict pi-hole and two active ad-blockers on Vivaldi.
But I got an overlay-message that roughly said "If you are having trouble watching the video report it <here>".
I could imagine that this is some kind of youtube filter to push down content they don't like to get more reach. Or an anti-ad-blocker strategy.

I generally avoid yt if I can use an alternative like peertube, and I almost never interact with yt videos, but your videos are definitely worth boosting 😀

The one thing that I just fail to get, is that federation needs to be explained to people, when it's a concept that pretty much everyone is familiar with.
Have a (mobile) phone? You're federating. Have an email address? You're federating. Have an internet connection? That's federated.
People understand that you don't have to be on the same (mobile) phone network, with the same email provider, the same ISP, in order to communicate with others. Many daily services work, regardless of the provider you're with, where you can pick and choose and leave, without anything changing.
So why is it so insanely difficult to apply this concept to #XMPP messaging or anything on the #Fediverse?
It drives me crazy sometimes.

@_elena There's something about its Twitter spin-off history that makes it earlier to migrate for some. So, news and politics on the left and centre are slowly appearing.
I've found more people to follow there, but the engagement is awful, and it's less friendly (the rage of Twitter is still alive - I find myself ranting there a lot).
I have learnt over time that they are too company-focused for it to really change the social internet, though.

@_elena actually one thing you should look for is the origin country, region locks are quite common on yt. It's Canada for me, but you may have checked my profile for it... I can try from the US when I connect to work (all traffic goes out a US proxy).
@_elena It was the yt app on Android. Usually I open videos in incognito on Chrome (Android usually, or on my computer), except from select accounts I'm familiar with. I just tested and it worked from Chrome too (incognito).
